Does it move you?

I heard a prominent figure in the art world proclaim the following during his daily radio broadcast, "What makes a great piece of art?" His answer, "A great piece of art is a piece of art that moves you."  It's that simple.

"Seeing the world through the eyes of an artist can be inspirational; it can change your perspective, renew your spirit and bring rest to your soul...these are the very reasons I started painting again after 30 years - I needed a new perspective as well as renewal for my spirit and rest in my soul. I was blessed with all three. That's why I began painting again, but I continue to paint because I love the process. The reason I share my paintings is to bring the same to you; a new perspective, spiritual renewal and rest -  a way to encourage and edify without saying a word."  Vicki Hoarty

Focus not just on the temporal but on the eternal

Renew your spirit:  Think about those things that are noble, pure, lovely, admirable and excellent.

Bring rest to your soul:  Peace will cover your mind, will and emotions.

American Artist, Author and Designer

"Never stop looking for the hidden treasures in your life. When you find your purpose behind your passion, you will find peace, joy and fulfillment."

My original fine art is reproduced on note cards, greeting cards and stationery; - www.hiddentreasuresart.com - "for the Art Collector in all of us!"

Collecting Art:     The bottom line is this, even though it may sound simple, buy what you love. Don't buy art to impress someone; buy art because it speaks to your heart. Buy art that makes an impression on your soul, depending on the season of your life. Art is meant to give you inspiration and renew your spirit. Art is meant to bring a new focus to your perspective and enhance your life by ministering peace and joy.  If you always buy what you love, you will never regret your purchase.

Up Close & Personal

I was born in a small town in Nebraska and raised in a small village in the same state. In fact, the farming village was so small, we all knew everyone that lived within a 30 mile radius and even knew every dog in town by his (her) first name. I'm not kidding. It was a great place to grow up and create wonderful lasting memories.

My favorite things growing up were to lie on my back in the summer grass and watch the clouds change from shape to shape...to burn the fall leaves in the ditch and smell the season changing... to ice skate on the frozen pond that the volunteer firemen built for the kids in town...to fill my parents basement with wet, cold clothes, as ten or more kids waited for hot chocolate. Spring would always be faithful with Mom's tulips blooming on the south side of the house and Easter lilies on the east. Dad would give us the anticipation of a windy day by pulling the kites out for a breezy fly over and take us fishing as soon as the weather permitted. Mom would fry chicken and prepare her county-wide famous potato salad, pack the camper and make sure the lifejackets were all present in the borrowed boat. Off to the lake for a weekend of skiing, s'mores and early morning swims. What a great life we lived and enjoyed.  When I was in my 20s, I loved to take the car and park on the side of a freshly picked corn field and watch the migrating Canadian Geese rest and refuel before continuing their journey South.

Now I live in Texas and I long to see the geese, smell the leaves and watch the clouds. I paint to preserve memories and create new ones. When viewing a painting, it will move you when it reminds you of your past or presents the possibility of a new beginning. That's why I paint.

Don't get me wrong, there were adversities in my life and many devastating ones, but the good news is this; I have learned to change my adversities into learning experiences. The Lord truly uses the gift He gave me; to paint a new perspective, renew my spirit and give rest to my soul. That's why I paint...to share the blessing.
